Psychotherapist

Phyllis Traficante

Youth, Family, and Individual Trauma Specialist

At the core of Phyllis’ work is a perspective that considers the human condition as inextricably connected to their context. Behaviour is considered via a nervous system perspective derived from the latest research in neuroscience. It posits that behaviour is a person’s best attempt to keep safe, to protect themselves and reduce pain.

Clients, both individual, parents, families and organizations, would reflect that their work with Phyllis values inclusiveness, reciprocity, attunement, grounding, relational safety, and genuine care. Phyllis offers support to the whole system the individual, or organization, is in connection with, rather than in isolation. This is where the gestalt premise of “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” comes alive. The entirety of the person, or organizational context, is the ground from which experience and behavior emerges. Therefore, we respond to the entirety of the system which supports connection, regulation, healing, and growth.

Phyllis is co-founder of Restoring Resilience (RR) training organization that aims to teach and empower individuals and communities to treat and resolve stress, overwhelm and trauma.

Phyllis is a gestalt psychotherapist, somatic experiencing global training assistant, workshop developer and facilitator, clinical supervisor. Phyllis’ work with youth in high schools has been published in the book “Brain changing strategies to trauma proof” our schools by Maggie Kline (2020).

Phyllis loves spending time with her family, friends, and walking Oscar, her dog, reading, writing and singing.
